Cornwall Museums Partnership appoint Tamzyn Smith as new CEO.

Cornwall Museums Partnership (CMP) is excited to announce the appointment of Tamzyn Smith as new CEO, to further drive the charity forward in new and innovative directions and continue its purpose of creating positive social change with museums.

Tamzyn is currently Principal Lead for Culture and Creative Economy at Cornwall Council, a position she has held since 2019 and where she led on the co-creation of Cornwall’s Creative Manifesto. Prior to Cornwall Council, Tamzyn worked at Real Ideas Organisation as a specialist consultant in Arts and Culture, and at the Hall for Cornwall as the Interim Operations and Team Development Lead.

Tamzyn said, ‘I am delighted to be joining the fantastic team at Cornwall Museums Partnership. Building on the experience, partnerships and reputation that is already in place, I’m excited to get to work with Cornwall’s museums and the CMP team to establish what we want to collectively achieve together. Museums are an integral part of Cornwall’s distinctive cultural and creative sector and placed at the heart of our communities; they play an important role in exploring a sense of place and identity. Through the joy and wonder of their spaces and collections, our museum’s also enable a sense of curiosity to explore more challenging topics and ideas, bringing about new perspectives, new ways of working and positive social change.”

Not only will Tamzyn bring a wealth of experience from working within the sector, but she also has several non-executive roles which include, the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly’s Local Enterprise Partnership’s Creative Industries Taskforce, she was Vice Chair of the Borlase Smart John Wells Trust and sits on Tate St Ives Advisory Council. Tamzyn was previously a member of the CMP Board of Directors between 2018 and 2021, and a member of the South West Museum Development Partnership for five years.

Fiona Morris, CMP Chair said, ‘We were delighted with the overwhelming response to our search for a new CEO which gave us a strong field of candidates. Following a robust, inclusive, and lengthy selection process we were thrilled to appoint Tamzyn to this important role for the charity. She has significant experience in the cultural sector in Cornwall and is well networked across the sector. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious and her passion for CMP’s purpose to create positive social change through museums was clear to see. The board, CMP team, and I are excited about the future of the charity under Tamzyn’s leadership.’
