“Today is @kidsinmuseums Digital Takeover Day! 📱🏛

Gwen from @trurohighschoolforgirls did her work experience at Penlee House last week, and this was her favourite painting in our current exhibition.

Denys Law’s ‘Lamorna Stream’ is my favourite painting in the Lamorna Colony Pioneers exhibition. The daffodils depicted along the bank of the stream and dotted around the woods carry a special historical significance, as daffodils were replanted there during World War 2 due to farmers using their fields for important produce, and also provide a warm splash of colour that makes this painting stand out amongst the calm greens and blues of the other artworks. Law’s use of dappled shadows cast by the trees onto the surface of the stream and the path beside it exudes an almost mysterious feeling, that is fitting with the wild and yet peaceful tone of the work.”
