Impact Report: Spotlight on Internships

The past 6 months of my marketing internship at CMP have been a steep learning curve, allowing me to develop a wealth of valuable transferable skills, workplace experience and most of all confidence!

I’ve been fortunate enough to get involved in a wide array of projects beyond my core duties as Marketing Intern, so that alongside running the CMP social media accounts and producing blogs and newsletters, I’ve also been writing press releases for exciting projects (such as the Beyond Digitisation and National Gallery Jan van Huysum Visits tour); and planned a new CMP podcast series.

I have been able to learn and apply a range of transferable skills in my role, from copywriting for print and digital media to using data analysis to make data-driven, informed decisions about our website functionality and social media growth. Finally, my role has included exposure to significant company projects such as the Citizen Curators programme, CMP brand and website redesign and G7 national PR campaign Reboot Cornwall.

Starting my first full time job remotely was a daunting prospect but the CMP team have been so supportive and fun to work with; this internship has definitely eased my transition into the working world and I really appreciate the values-led nature of the company. Thanks to CMP’s support package such as our flexible working policy I have quite enjoyed the experience of working from home, which offers a far more convenient routine now that I no longer have to commute! As my role is so independent and online-based I haven’t found being unable to work in person too restrictive, though of course it has been harder to pick up on what’s going on for social media content. This has encouraged me to be creative, coming up with content series such as Cornish LGBT+ History Month icons in February and 7 days of Instagram posts celebrating our return #BacktoMuseums in May.

CMP have been brilliant at supporting my development with training opportunities and I have benefited immensely from my mentor at English Heritage who has greatly supported me with the ins and outs of social media management. In particular, my training in Google Analytics and experience conducting an audit of our Museums in Cornwall website will likely prove extremely useful in the future. I have really appreciated this opportunity and the variety of skills, experiences and training I have gained through it.
