Today, Cornwall Museums Partnership (CMP) has received £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project; the first ever Cornwall Heritage Awards. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the very first Cornwall Heritage Awards will celebrate the achievements of museums and heritage organisations across Cornwall.
The Awards will provide a unique opportunity to showcase the hard work of museums as well as the staff, volunteers and trustees that support them. Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony that takes place on 20 March 2018 at Scorrier House in Redruth.
The Lottery funding will support cash investment in museums. The £10,000 awards fund will go directly to museums in the form of physical awards and cash prizes, to help museums further develop their community work. The prize money is a fantastic opportunity for museums and heritage organisations in Cornwall to develop new and exciting community projects and to further strengthen their connections with their local communities.
Commenting on the award, Cornwall Museums Partnership CEO Emmie Kell said: “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to National Lottery players and we are confident that the awards fund will help shine a light on Cornwall’s unique heritage, the thousands of volunteers who care for it and the value it has for us all”.
Nerys Watts, Head of Heritage Lottery Fund South West, said: “We are really excited to be supporting these Awards, which recognise the fantastic achievements of museums and heritage organisations across Cornwall. Cornwall Museums Partnership does excellent and innovative work supporting the sector, and these awards are an important way to celebrate the brilliant work that has been carried out and the high standards achieved, as well as to share learning and say thank you to all of the people who’ve worked so hard and accomplished so much”.
